If you’re planning a trip to Île aux Cerfs, it’s easy to assume the entire island is open to everyone. In reality, some areas are freely accessible, while others are generally reserved for guests of Shangri-La Le Touessrok Mauritius or the island’s golf facilities.
Knowing the difference before you arrive can help you avoid unnecessary surprises and make the most of your visit.
Areas Open to All Visitors
Most of the places that attract day visitors are freely accessible.
The Main Beach
This is where most catamaran cruises and speedboat tours arrive.
Visitors can relax on the beach, swim in the lagoon or simply enjoy their free time.
The Coastal Trail
A shaded coastal path of around 1.5 km follows the shoreline towards Îlot Mangénie.
The trail offers pleasant lagoon views and is open to visitors, although it does not provide access to the private resort facilities beyond it.
The Lagoon
Swimming and snorkeling are among the most popular activities available to all visitors.
Depending on your excursion, a snorkeling stop may be included before reaching the island, or you can enjoy the lagoon during your free time.
Water Activities
Independent operators generally offer activities such as jet skiing, parasailing, kayaking, glass-bottom boat trips and towable tube rides.
These activities are usually available for an additional charge.

Areas Generally Reserved
Some parts of the island are not intended for general visitors.
The Golf Course
The 18-hole golf course designed by Bernhard Langer is associated with Shangri-La Le Touessrok Mauritius.
Access is generally limited to golfers who meet the course’s admission requirements.
Langer’s Bar & Grill
Langer’s Bar & Grill, located near the golf course, is generally intended for guests using those facilities.
Access policies may change over time, so it’s best to check directly with the venue if needed.
The Private Areas of Îlot Mangénie
Although the public trail runs alongside Îlot Mangénie, the resort facilities beyond it are generally reserved for guests staying at Shangri-La Le Touessrok Mauritius.
The Exclusive South-East Beach
Some beach areas, including associated services such as butler service, are also reserved for eligible hotel guests.
These facilities are not part of a standard excursion to Île aux Cerfs.
Will These Restrictions Affect Your Visit?
For most visitors, not at all.
Catamaran cruises and speedboat excursions already include access to the island’s main public attractions, including the main beach, the lagoon and free time to explore. Depending on your chosen excursion, lunch and additional stops are also part of the experience.
Most travellers enjoy a full day on Île aux Cerfs without needing access to the private resort areas.
